HISTORY :
Organization's
Background
The seed of establishing NEGROS
KABATAAN, INC. started 2 years ago and stemmed
from the success of the informal outreach programs
and activities by some private and well-meaning
individuals.
As of 2006, around 6,000 poor
Negros Occidental children have been served
in terms of books, school supplies, and toys,
among others. The smiles and the pure gratitude
we received encouraged us to contemplate, creating
an organization that will institutionalize the
objectives of such program in a more permanent
setting and the need to set-up a platform to
sustain the good works achieved by the gift-giving
activities for the children of Negros.
Negros Occidental province
is number 42 out of 82 in the poverty incidence
for the whole of Philippines, with 1 as the
poorest. With population from age 0 to 14 at
38.64% and with 50.6% those who finished only
elementary out of the 1,873,472 household population,
the need to fully complement the insufficient
and deteriorating educational system and the
widespread poverty is the paramount consideration
for establishing a reading/learning center.
